New Delhi

The main area for cheap accommodation in Delhi is the Paharganj area. The Main Bazaar begins right opposite the New Delhi train station. This area is crammed with a variety of budget hotels starting from around 7USD for a room.

Trains to all over India leave from the New Delhi train station. Foreigners must purchase their tickets from the International Tourist Bureau located up the stairs behind the main ticket office.

Delhi has a good metro system with trains reaching most of the main areas and attractions in the city, including the airport. Prices range from 10 to 60 rupees (0.12USD to 0.72USD) depending on the length of the journey and trains run frequently. The metro stop for the New Delhi train station and Paharganj is called "New Delhi". The airport line also starts from this station.

The India Gate (also called the Delhi Memorial) is a 42 m high sandstone arch commemorating the 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919. The memorial bears the names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers. Surrounding the imposing structure is a large expanse of green lawns, a popular picnic spot for locals.

Located in the center of New Delhi, a 2 km walk from either Central Secretariat or Udyog Bhawan metro stations.
